1 Gold and 3 Bronze for RRC Masters rowers....

Last Sunday, Jane McQuilkan, Sandra Prebble and Karen Morreau, teamed up with Geraldine Okane, to win gold in the Women’s Coxless Quad Sculls for 50 – 55yr age class, at the 2011 Banklink National Masters Rowing Championships at Lake Kairapiro. Six years ago three of the women, in the crew, had never sat in a rowing skiff.Stroked by Geraldine, the crew got off to a good start

and by the 500m mark they had established a lead of about a canvas, over arch rivals St Georges, from Auckland. At the 750m mark, two other crews had joined the fray and put up a strong challenge,

but the Rotorua crew dug deep and pulled away, to win by over a boat length.

Immediately after the race ,two of the quad; Sandra Prebble and Karen Morreau; crewed up with their husbands, to go straight back down the course and win a bronze medal,  in the Mixed Masters Quadruple Sculls for 55 – 60 yr age class .

Geraldine Okane and Jane McQuilkan won a bronze medal in the Women’s 45 – 50 yr age class, for Double Sculls and Gordon Meyer, Johan Morreau, Duncan Cameron and Rob Prebble won a bronze medal in the Men’s  Quad; 60 – 65 years age class.

“Overall it was a great result for the club” says club captain Rob Prebble. “We had 11 rowers competing in the Nationals this year and everyone got into A finals, with 4 crews achieving podium finishes. “
