Karapiro Spring Regatta RESULTS 17.11.12
Introduction
This year Karapiro Rowing is taking a fresh look at early season regattas with the view to making them more relaxed and more fun for the competitors. The spring regatta for 2012 will be different to previous years and will follow a completely new format. This year each athlete will be allowed to enter one event only but will race the boat they enter three times during the day. The format will be as follows:
Race Format Round One (Time Trial)
The first round of racing for the day will take the format of a Time Trial. All crews will be assigned a number to take part in the time trial. Crews will time trial over a distance a little shorter than 2000m at 10 second intervals.
Race Format Round Two
The Second round of racing will take the form of a conventional race and will be raced in eight lanes with a held start. The semi-finals will be put together based on the times gathered from the time trials. The eight fastest crews (of whatever boat type) will make up the first race, the next fastest eight crew will make up the second race. The same will apply until all crews have been assigned to a race. The whole idea of the way that the races is put together is based on times, so the races will be made up of different boat classes and genders as there could be women in boat racing men in a different boat type.
Race Format Round Three (Final)
The Final round of racing will be conventional racing in eight lanes with a held start over 2000m. These races will be based on the times from the previous round. From the previous round, the fastest eight crews will be in Final A, the next fastest eight crews will be in Final B and so on until all crews have been assigned to a final.
