New Zealand ‘sweeps’ the course at the u21 Youth Cup…

Once more New Zealand will retain the ‘Rusty Robinson Trophy’; awarded in honor of one of New Zealand’s and Australia’s greatest coaches; Rusty Robinson.

The NZ team will head home after winning the Youth cup by a 20 point margin, finishing with 123 points, ahead of New South Wales with 103 points and Victoria with 81 points.

Rotorua’s Claudia Hyde won 3 medals for New Zealand; Gold in both the Women’s Coxless Quad and the Women’s Coxed Eight and a  Bronze in the Women’s Single sculls.New Zealand gained a total of 16 Gold (out of a possible 20), 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals from 20 races.

The U21 grade Youth Cup is an annual fixture and new Zealand is a regular attendee. Each team has a Men’s and Women’s Coxed eight and a lightweight Men’s and Women’s single scull. All rowers compete over the three days in various boats. The event this year marks an important moment in Oceania’s rowing history, with the first attendance of a team from Vanuatu.
