A big thankyou to all the Rotorua Rowing Club athletes and supporters who travelled to and competed in the second leg of the John Howard Regatta Series at Wairoa. The Bad news is we didn’t bring the trophy back with us, but the good news it was awarded to another Bay of Plenty club, BOP Coast Rowing Club. From where I was sitting (which was directly behind a number of the races) the performances I was seeing were very impressive. From everyone. Our crews were giving it everything, knowing the  points differential was going to make the awarding of the trophy come down to the last few races. There was drama and intrigue. A receding flood, tide changes, a course that had a short way home and a long way home, a bridge with 3 (and sometimes less) arches to navigate through, and so much wood that had to be pulled out of the river that my umpiring boat at times looked like a log truck, and there was so much debris off loaded at the Spooner’s Point start that it resembled a truck roll over. It was all in all a great event, and I am proud of the performances put on the course in the Red and Green. Well done. James Boyce, Club President
