Fastest boat at the regatta …KRI SPRING REGATTA
16.11.13
“It’s all pretty mixed up really – time trial and then heats based on times made for close racing, so really useful training. Standouts would be the U18 boys 8+ winning the A final, Connor and Andre, and U18
quad with Mania, Jordan and two U18 novice girls, Samantha and Gabrielle, and the U15 Boys Octuple who got significantly faster with every race during the day.”
Alastair Riddle, Head Coach
“The format of the Karapiro Spring Regatta makes it a lot of fun with the crews who entered last year wanting to enter again even in the middle of exams. With the time trial concept each crew had no idea what they would be up against.
Each crew new that no matter how they performed they would be against other rowers of the same ability, weather they be men or woman, boys or girls. The Rotorua crews took on the spirit of the regatta and tried their hardest to get
their best time to put them up the ladder as far as they could be. Some crews from other clubs just didn't get it and cruised down the course to get into a lower heat just to say they won, however I don't think they achieved
anything. The performance of all the Rotorua rowers have shown that we can look forward to an exciting season with many combinations looking good for the season to come.”
Glen Reichardt, Club Captain
Rotorua Rowing Club’s U18 Boys coxed eight oar crew of Conner McNamara-Spackman (stroke),Bradley Grant, Lewis Morrell,Tom
Coleman, Jonathan Curtis,Sean van Nieuwenhuizen,Cole Starling, Mathew Bennett and Keely Gage (cox) coached by Glen Reichardt won the overall time trial from the entire field of 127 crews in a time of 6 minutes and 23 seconds and went on to win the regatta in the A Final.
Rotorua Rowing club (RRC) crews time-trialed for their place in the heats and semi-finals at the KRI Spring Regatta in the weekend. There was a constant stream of races.
The fastest eight oars, racing alongside the fastest octuples, coxed fours, coxless fours, coxed quad sculls and coxless quads, and the fastest double sculls racing the coxless pairs and single sculls down the 2000m course.
Into its second year now Karapiro Rowing’s new Spring Regatta format is very impressive for the onlooker. The U18 Boys coxed eight oar, were a standout for Head Coach Riddle, along with the double sculls crew of Connor Broughton and Andre Le Lievre , coached by Glen Reichardt, who took 3rd in the time trial of 21 double sculls in a time of 7 minutes and 12 seconds and won their Final. The U18 mixed quad with Mania Oxenham(stroke), Jordan McNamara-Spackman , U18 novice girls; Samantha Mathews and Gabrielle Grattan and cox; Tyla Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen coached by Emma-Jane Weller, placed an impressive eight in a time of 7min 21 secs in their time trial of 47 quad scull crews. The Boys U15 Octuple crew of Liam Waites (stroke), Callum August, Cameron Bennett, Charlie Binks, Lexus Wharekawa, Kobe Anthony, Liam Franklin, Nathan Morshead and cox; Shelby Cuff, coached by Fiona Bassett, rowed significantly faster as the day progressed to win their Final.
