“The highlight from the Spring Regatta has to be Rotorua Rowing Club amassing the highest number of points” said Rotorua Rowing Club President James Boyce. ”And so far, we lead the
Karapiro Trophy.”This is a cumulative points trophy awarded at the end of the season. The Rotorua crews attended the KRI Club Regatta over the weekend which increased their points.
“Rotorua crews all performed well” said RRC Captain Glen Reichardt “and the senior boys in the U18 doubles performed exceptionally well which bodes well for a great season for them.”
“Crews battled it out right to the finish.” said Reichardt of the Morrell/Grant double and the Oxenham/Curtis double(photo above)“This is how we train and was good to see it put into practice.”
The changeable conditions made for choppy waters and slower times.“Unfortunately the regatta on the weekend was cut short due to the weather and so many did not get to row a single race.”
said RRC Captain Glen Reichardt.
Rotorua’s representative in the Waikato Regional Performance Centre; Claudia Hyde fought a strong head wind to place second in the Open Women’s Single.
