Our girl’s training in an ice jacket in South Korea…
The team physiologist and nutritionist for Rowing NZ have Rotorua Rowing Club’s Julia Edward (right) and Lucy Strack wearing ice jackets and drinking ‘slushies‘ prior to training sessions in South Korea, to keep their body temperatures cool .
“The weather is so humid and so hot that at each turn around on the course we are dunking our hats and feet in the water quickly before we get going again” added Edward. The girls will train for 2 weeks before they compete in the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls event at the 2013 World rowing Championships.
“There isn't much going on where we are, our hotel is in the hills in the middle of nowhere” said Edward. ” It’s a really nice place to stay and everybody is very welcoming.”
Their heat is NZ time 3.13pm, 25th August. “If you want to keep in touch follow Lucy and I on our facebook page ‘NZLW2X’."
