The 2013 North Island Club Rowing Championships couldn’t have asked for better weather or better water. With conditions perfect, Rotorua’s Taylor Boyce (John Paul College) took a Bronze medal,
in the Men’s Open Lightweight Single Scull.” Right from the start of the race I knew I had to get out and ahead” said Taylor Boyce,“ I was winning till the 750m mark when a sculler from Waikato Regional Performance Centre pulled ahead of me. I managed to keep with him throughout the rest of the race, but unfortunately was passed by a sculler from Auckland Grammar in the last 500m.”
Boyce was happy with his result. “I knew I couldn’t have gone any harder.” said Boyce, ”I was unsure during the race whether I was able to achieve a medal or not .I knew I was still new to singles racing.”
Boyce will be training hard in the next few weeks, working to take ten seconds off his time, in his goal of making an A Final at Maadi (New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Championships)
in the single scull event at Karapiro at the end of March.
