Cambridge Town Cup

Rotorua Rowing Club rowers had a very good regatta at last weekend’s three day Cambridge Town Cup at Karapiro, one of the biggest ever held in New Zealand .
Progression from heats to finals was very tough, with only a third of the overall crews entered making finals on the Sunday. Most Rotorua rowers got to race on finals day, so the Rotorua coaching team were very pleased.

“ There was a noticeable improvement from all rowers from the previous Karapiro regatta before Christmas” said Head Coach Alastair Riddle.

Stand out performances in 'A' finals were;

1) the Girls U15 coxed quad ; placed 2nd in a time of 7:51.33 and crewed by Sofia Morrell (stroke), Alie Henderson Corporal, Meg Aitchison, Sara Whibley, Phoebe Johnston (cox), Coached by Alastair Riddle, Fiona Bassett.

2)the Girls U17 coxed quad placed 1st in a time of 7:26.18, and crewed by Stacey Tamblin (stroke), Hannah Cox, Emma Cronshaw-Hunt,Alice West , Phoebe Johnston (cox), Coached by Chris Pearson ..

3)The Men’s novice double sculls placed 1st in a time of 7:22.47 and crewed by Jonathan Curtis (stroke),Jordan McNamara-Spackman. Coached by Glen Reichardt ..

4)The Men’s club double sculls placed 3rd (time7:01.03) and crewed by Conner Spackman (stroke), Bradley Grant. Coached by Glen Reichardt

5)The Men’s novice coxed eight placed 2nd (time 6:33.17) and crewed by Tom Coleman (stroke), Conner Broughton,Jonathan Curtis,Jordan McNamara-Spackman ,Cole Starling, Andre Lelievre, Samual Park, Sean van Nieuwenhuizen,Tyla Jansen Van Nieuwenhu (cox). Coached by Harry Ashby.

6)The Boys U17 coxed four placed 1st (time 6:45.47) and crewed by Lewis Morrell (stroke), Bradley Grant,Stephen Wright ,Conner Spackman,+ Keely Gauge (cox),Coached by Glen Reichardt.

Very good results from the BOYS U17 double sculls placed 3rd (time 7:01.03) and crewed by Conner Spackman (stroke), Bradley Grant, Coached by Glen Reichardt .

And the GIRLS U17 2X placed 3rd (time 7:49.85) and crewed by Olivia Ashby (stroke) ,Stacey Tamblin, Coached by Chris Pearson.

The club have a few senior rowers going to the North Island club championships in two weeks time.

“Most of the rowers are now settling in to 3 weeks of intensive training “ said Coach Riddle “then they’ll attend a weekend training camp in preparation for the Schools racing season in March.”

The rowing season concludes on the 24^th March with the NZ Secondary Schools regatta held this year at Karaprio.
