Te Awamutu Regatta…
Rotorua Rowing Club(RRC) dashed over to Karapiro on the weekend to race in the one day Te Awamutu Regatta, put on by the Te Awamutu Rowing Club.  A smaller fun regatta; the ‘Te A’ is a chance for the novices to race on New Zealand’s the elite rowing course.  Lake Karapiro was blustery and overcast; perfect for practicing new-found skills.
“The main purpose was to give novices plenty of opportunities to race and it did that, “ said RRC Head Coach Alastair Riddle,” with most of the Rotorua novices having three 2km races, all into a strengthening head wind.
A tough introduction to the 2km distance for them, but coaches were pleased with the fight shown by all their crews. A good introduction to regattas for new parents as well.
School exams tend to reduce the numbers of senior rowers present but those participating acquitted themselves well with some good results. “A nice break from the base building distance work they have been doing for the last few months” said Coach Riddle.
