Taupo Rowing Club Re-launches…

Rotorua Rowing Club coaches travelled to Taupo on the weekend to help at an open day to re-launch the Taupo Rowing Club.

Coach Glen Reichardt (President of the Rotorua Rowing Club), Head Coach Alastair Riddle, Coach James Boyce (Chairman of the BOP Rowing Association) and Coach Narelle Boss rigged the skiffs and gave a keen bunch of rowers-to-be a basic sculling lesson. The Quad was held to the shore by a length of rope to avoid the beginners floating off into the greater Taupo Lake and allowing Head Coach  Riddle to stay onshore while the young scullers practiced putting their oars in the water for the first time.

Meanwhile inside the Taupo Yacht Club, Coach Mark Elphick , from Sport BOP in Tauranga, set up an ERG training, which was very popular.

Rotorua has had the use of the Taupo boats for a number of years while the Taupo Club has been rebuilding and negotiating for a home base.

This has suited both clubs- Taupo had its boats stored and maintained and Rotorua welcomed having the skiffs as we were very short of boats.

Rotorua sees an on-going support role as Taupo builds its club up again.
