World best time for Rotorua’s Julia Edward
“The Greeks were not too happy being beaten by the dark horses“ Harry Edward’s daughter Julia Edward told him over the weekend.Julia Edward (Rotorua Rowing Club) and her partner Louise Ayling took Silver in the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls , at the 2012 Samsung World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland. China was in the Gold position and world champions ; Greece had to be content with Bronze.
New Zealand's new women's lightweight double sculling crew, on their international debut, made a World best Time in their heat. With a time of 6.49.43 seconds, three tenths ahead of the previous best, Edward and Ayling rewrote the record books. Moments later, Greece, also broke the old mark, but the Kiwi time was faster. This is only the third time in rowing history that New Zealand has had a World best Time. Mahe Drysdale and the Ever -Swindell twins precede our lightweight Women’s Double Scull.
“This week-end has been a really good test for us, so we know where we are.Julia told worldrowing .com “  It’s our first race together internationally and we are just building some confidence.  We are training with the best in the New Zealand team.  Anything is possible for London.
