Cambridge Town Cup; a rainy start…

The Cambridge Town Cup Regatta was enjoyed by the Karapiro ducks on Saturday morning and the 2 hours rowing lost to the wet, windy weather was added into the schedule on Sunday, as the skies improved and the rowers dried off.

The Rotorua School rowers gathered 2 second places and 1 third place at the regatta.The crew of Sarah Freeman, Emily Hodge, Natalie Hill, Shannon Boyce, Cox ;Delaney Phillips came in 2nd  in the Women’s U18 Coxed Quad Sculls andOlivia Ashby, Grace Eriksen, Georgina Hyde, Holly Johnson, Cox; Willow Sperry crewed the Women’s U15 Coxed Quad Sculls to 2nd . Right behind them in third place , were Stacey Tamblin, EmmaCronshaw-Hunt, Hannah Cox, Alice West, Cox; Zoe-Rose Jans ..

Rotorua’s Jeffrey Francis and Laura Fischer gained the only 2 first places at the regatta. Laura Fischer ; rowing for the WRPC (Waikato Regional Performance Centre), won the Women’s Premier Coxed Eight in a time of 7 minutes 18 seconds and Jeffrey Francis; rowing for WRPC; the Men’s Premier Coxless Quad Sculls in a time of  6 minutes 59 seconds. Francis, got the better of Thomas O’Donnell, rowing for WRC (Waikato Rowing Club), by 5 seconds to win.

The results reflected the excitement in the finals, as our Rotorua rowing ‘old girls’ and ‘old boys’ fought for position. In the Men’s Premier Double Sculls, Thomas O’Donnell , battled to finish ahead of Jeffrey Francis and placed 5th , with Francis 6th.Rotorua’s  Julia Edward; rowing for the NZ Elite Team,  managed to head off Rotorua’s Laura Fischer, in the  Women’s Premier Single Sculls and took 7th place ahead of Laura’s 8th position.
