Chris’s crew goes to A final…

Coach Chris Pearson’s Western heights High School Under 15 Coxed Quad powered across the finish line in first place , early on the first morning of the  AON Maadi Cup heats for New Zealand Secondary School rowers  and was one of only 2 Rotorua Rowing Club crews to go straight to A Final. The ‘newbies’ -cox; Morgan McHale, Emma Cronshaw-Hunt,  Hannah Cox, Alice West, stroke Stacey Tamblin, started rowing this season. Stroke Tamlin achieved her goal - “medal at the North islands and get into the A final at ‘Maadi’”

The more experienced JPC crew of stroke -Olivia Ashby ,Angela O’Sullivan, Georgina Hyde, Grace Eriksen and cox; Willow Sperry, also coached by Chris Pearson, came 3^rd in their heat and will proceed to repechage. If they win the repechage they will skip the semi final, conserving energy for an A Final.

The AON Maadi Cup is the largest rowing regatta in New Zealand and ends on 3^rd April. Finals are Friday and Saturday (Sunday is kept on hold in case of weather ). Well worth a look and rowing is one of the most beautiful spectator sports. A 55 minutes drive from Rotorua towards Hamilton. Drive through Tirau and turn off to Karapiro Village .Take a picnic and enjoy the racing. Entry to the car park is off Maunagatautari Road and costs $5 .It is an easy 1 ½ mins walk to the Lake Karapiro Domain from the car park.
