Rotorua crews hold their breath for rowing medals

The weather brought the rowing to a stop today and Sunday will used as a Finals day for the famous MAADI Cup. The younger, smaller crews will race Sunday to spare them the choppy water.

Rotorua Rowing Schools have made excellent progress in the Semi finals at the 2010 New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Championships on Lake Ruataniwha, in Twizel .

Claudia Hyde from JPC made her heat easily at the front and came in first in her semi final. It will be a long day for Claudia waiting for her A Final. There are big expectations Claudia will be in the medals for the Under 17 Girls Single Sculls.

It is likely the youngest rowers in an A Final ; the JPC crew of Louise Ford and Olivia Ashby and the RGHS crew of Helen Payne and Gisele Foster will be fighting it out for the medals in the Under 15 Double Sculls. Both crews finished first in their respective heats and 2^nd in their semi finals. It will be close. The girls train together and have competed all season vying for this Gold .

RGHS rowers Helen Payne and Gisele Foster will join their U15 Quad Scull crew of Greer Murray, Samantha Grace and cox; Tara Moberly ready for their A Final. 1^st in their heat and 1^st in their semi they will not have John Paul College in the race.

JPC rower Louise Ford and the U16 Quad of Annalise Wilson, Natalie Hill, Sarah Freeman and cox;Delaney Phillips will compete in their A final after also making 1^st in heat and 1^st in semi -final.
